Frequently Asked Questions
Freshness & Shipping
When exactly is my coffee roasted?
We roast every order fresh — meaning your coffee isn’t sitting in a warehouse somewhere waiting to ship. Once you place your order, we roast and ship within three business days. That timeline keeps your coffee arriving at peak flavor while it’s at its best.
How fresh will my coffee be when it arrives?
Very fresh — and that’s the point. Most grocery store coffee was roasted months before it hit the shelf. Yours is roasted days before it reaches your door. We ship in bags with one-way valve seals that let CO2 escape without letting air in, which protects the beans during transit. When your bag arrives, you may notice that fresh-roasted bloom — that’s a good sign.
What does shipping cost, and is there a minimum order?
Shipping is a flat $4.00 for orders under $35. Orders of $35 or more ship free. There’s no order minimum — you’re welcome to start with a single bag and see how you like it.
Do you ship internationally?
Right now we ship within the United States only. If you’re outside the US and interested in our coffee, reach out and we’ll let you know if anything changes.
The Roasting Process
What is air roasting, and why does it matter?
In a drum roaster, beans tumble inside a rotating metal drum and some touch the hot surface directly, which can scorch them and add bitterness. In an air roaster (fluid bed roaster), beans float on a column of hot moving air — no direct contact with a hot surface. The result is a cleaner, more even roast that lets the natural flavors of the bean come through.
We use a fluid bed air roaster here in Vancouver, WA, and it’s why our coffee tastes bright and clear even at darker roast levels.
Why doesn’t your coffee taste bitter?
A few reasons. Air roasting means no scorching and more even heat. Our roaster also removes chaff (the papery skin on beans) continuously during the roast so it doesn’t add off-flavors. And we roast in small batches to order, so we can pay close attention to each profile. The goal is always to highlight what’s good about the bean, not hide it under a heavy roast.
How is this different from grocery store coffee?
Most grocery store coffee is drum-roasted in large batches, warehoused, shipped to stores, and sits on shelves for months. By the time it reaches your cup, peak flavor is long past. We roast in small batches, to order, and ship directly to you. No middleman, no warehouse, no guessing when it was roasted.
Grind Options
Do you offer pre-ground coffee?
Yes. When you add a bag to your cart, you can choose whole bean or select a grind size. We offer drip, French press, pour-over, and espresso grinds. If you’re not sure, “drip” works well for most standard home coffee makers.
Do I need a grinder to enjoy your coffee?
Not at all — we’re happy to grind your order before it ships. That said, if you have a burr grinder, buying whole bean and grinding fresh will give you the best results. Ground coffee starts losing flavor within a few days of grinding, while whole beans stay fresh much longer.
Which grind should I choose for my brewing method?
- Drip coffee maker: Medium grind
- French press: Coarse grind
- Pour-over (Chemex, V60, Kalita): Medium-fine grind
- Espresso machine: Espresso grind
- AeroPress: Medium or medium-fine

Products & Roast Levels
What’s the difference between blends and single-origin coffees?
A blend combines beans from multiple origins to create a consistent, balanced flavor — our Breakfast Blend and House Blend are built to taste reliably good every day. A single-origin coffee comes from one farm or region and has more distinct flavors that reflect that place. If you want something dependable and easy, start with a blend. If you’re curious about a specific region, try a single origin.
How do I choose between light, medium, and dark roast?
- Light: Brighter, fruitier, sometimes floral. More of the bean’s original character.
- Medium: Balanced. Most versatile for everyday drinking.
- Dark: Richer, chocolate and caramel notes, bold body, lower acidity.
If you’re switching from a commercial brand, medium is the easiest adjustment. And our dark roast won’t have the harsh edge you may be used to from grocery store dark roasts.
I’m not sure where to start — which coffee should I try?
Our Breakfast Blend is the most approachable starting point — medium roast, balanced, and forgiving across brewing methods. The House Blend is a close second. If you already know your flavor preferences, reach out and we’ll point you to the right single origin.
Subscriptions
How does the subscription work?
When you subscribe to a bag, you save 10% off every order — that’s $1.90 per bag, or over $22 back in a year if you order monthly. You choose the coffee, size, and delivery frequency. We roast and ship fresh on your schedule, same as a one-time order.
Can I pause, skip, or cancel my subscription?
Yes, without penalty. You can pause, skip a delivery, swap to a different coffee, or cancel anytime through your account. We don’t lock you in and we don’t make it hard to change things. If you ever need help with your account, contact us and we’ll sort it out same day.
Is there a minimum commitment or contract?
No. Subscribe when you want, cancel when you want. The 10% discount applies to every order as long as you’re subscribed. Most subscribers stick around because the fresh-roasted delivery becomes part of their routine — not because they’re obligated to.
