About this origin
Huila sits in southwestern Colombia, between the Eastern and Central Andean ranges. The mountainous terrain pushes coffee farms to high elevation, where cool nights slow cherry maturation and concentrate sugars in the bean. El Tiple is a small lot from Huila, and it is processed semi-washed. In a semi-washed (also called honey) process, the cherry pulp is removed but some of the sticky mucilage stays on the parchment-covered seed during drying on raised beds. That added sugar in the drying stage shows up in the cup as deeper caramel and a touch of dried fruit, while the coffee keeps the clean balance that washed Colombians are known for. We air-roast the green coffee to a medium development that holds the origin character and produces a clean cup with no scorched or papery notes from drum contact. The body lands medium with a syrupy mouthfeel, and the finish stays clear so the chocolate, vanilla, and roasted almond keep developing as the cup cools.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Do you offer ground coffee, or whole bean only? Both. Select whole bean or ground at checkout. If you choose ground, we grind to a medium setting that works well for most drip coffee makers. Whole bean is the better choice for freshness since ground coffee loses flavor noticeably faster. If you do not have a grinder at home, our ground option will still produce a much better cup than most store-bought coffee.
Q: Can I subscribe and save? Yes. Subscribe to Colombia El Tiple and save 10 percent on every order. Select delivery frequency at checkout (every 2, 4, or 6 weeks) and we roast and ship on that schedule. Pause, skip, or cancel anytime with no fees and no friction.
Q: How should I store my coffee to keep it fresh? Store it in an airtight container at room temperature, away from sunlight and heat. Our bags have a one-way valve that lets carbon dioxide escape without letting oxygen in. You can keep coffee in the original bag if you seal it tightly after each use. Avoid the refrigerator for beans you are actively brewing from. For storage longer than a month, airtight freezer storage works; let the beans come to room temperature before opening the bag.
Q: When is my coffee roasted? We do not pre-roast and warehouse inventory. We roast to order and ship within 2 to 3 days. The exact roast date is printed on every bag. Coffee is at or near peak freshness 4 to 14 days after roast, when the flavors are most developed.
