Air roasting coffee beans in a fluid bed roaster

Decaf

Is decaf right for you?

Decaf is for the cup you still want when you do not want the rest of the day to follow the caffeine. Some people brew it after dinner. Some people are sensitive to caffeine. Some people want a second pot without feeling wired. If that is you, you are in the right place.

His Word Coffee roasts Evening Grace for that slower cup. It is our current decaf: a medium roast from Mexico, decaffeinated with the Mexican EA (ethyl acetate) process, then air roasted fresh to order in Vancouver, WA. The cup is still coffee. You may notice milk chocolate, orange, pecan, brown sugar, and fig. Those tasting notes are natural impressions from the bean and the roast. Nothing is added.

Decaf is not a different drink. It is coffee with most of the caffeine removed before we roast it. A small amount of caffeine can remain. If you have a hard caffeine limit, follow your clinician's guidance.

This collection is the shop path for that coffee. Start with Evening Grace in 12 ounces, 2 pounds, or 5 pounds, whole bean or ground. If we add more decaf later, it will live here too.

How we decaf, in plain words. Mexican EA uses ethyl acetate on green coffee before roasting. Swiss Water and other water processes use water and carbon filters instead. We currently roast Mexican EA, not Swiss Water. We say that on the bag and on the product page so you can choose with clear facts.

Brew it the same way you brew the rest of our coffee. Drip, pour over, French press, or an espresso-style recipe all work. Start with your usual recipe and taste. Fresh roast matters more than a special decaf trick.

Want it to show up without thinking about it? Use the purchase options on the product page, or visit our subscribe page. We roast to order either way.

If you are choosing between a caffeinated daily roast and this one, ask a simple question. Do you want the cup, or do you want the lift? Evening Grace is for the cup.

Decaf questions

How is this coffee decaffeinated?

Evening Grace is decaffeinated with the Mexican EA (ethyl acetate) process on green coffee, before we roast it. We then air roast it fresh to order in Vancouver, WA.

How is Mexican EA different from Swiss Water?

Mexican EA uses ethyl acetate during decaffeination. Swiss Water and similar water processes use water and carbon filters instead. His Word Coffee currently roasts Mexican EA decaf, not Swiss Water. Choose based on the process you want, not a generic "decaf" label.

Does decaf still have caffeine?

Yes, a small amount can remain. Evening Grace is sold as decaf, not as caffeine-free. If you have a caffeine limit or a medical concern, follow your clinician's guidance.

How should I brew Evening Grace?

Brew it like our other coffees. Drip, pour over, French press, and espresso-style recipes all work. Start with your usual recipe, then taste and adjust. Whole bean and ground bags are both on the product page.

Can I subscribe to decaf?

Yes. Use the purchase options on the Evening Grace product page, or visit the subscribe page. We roast to order either way.
